This was in the parking lot. I almost parked my Kia in it just to make a point. Only handicapped drivers with Tesla’s? Nope.

That gets my hackles up, if I were you I’d just accidentally drive over the charging station.

If I could do it without damaging my lovely Kia, I’d consider that.

That sounds like a rare combination. It’s just going to attract BMWs instead .

Dreyer and Reinbold BMW is a half mile up the road. You may be right.

Let’s see, between the handicapped sign and the Tesla charging sign, which one is more enforceable???

I was this close to finding out, but there was another one next to it, so I chose the path of least resistance.
Still noted it for exceptional douche quotient.

I could seriously picture a douchebag Tesla owner getting pissy with you for parking there too.

I’d never get that lucky.

I mean... in Mexico if you have disabled plates you can park anywhere except I guess an airport runway.
in the US I’d wager it’s ADA>most if not all other restrictions.

Oh that was a joke - the Tesla sign carries no legality whatsoever. A Tesla parking there without a handicapped tag would be looking at a $150+ fine depending on the local laws.

It doesn’t say “Tesla parking only”, just “Tesla Charging Only”, which means you could have parked there, just not charged there. I don’t know if anyone makes an adapter from Tesla to SAE, but you probably couldn’t charge there even if they did, probably software constrained.

Depends on how old the High Power Wall Connector is.
The older ones are just ordinary J1772 EVSEs with a different connector, and an adapter (which does exist, precisely for charging non-Teslas off of those) works.
The second version adds logic to check for a Tesla. However, there’s a switch to disable that logic inside the unit. (They did this not because of the adapters, but rather because they extended the program where they give out free EVSEs to businesses to Europe, where Tesla uses a variant of t he European standard charging connector (and the High Power Wall Connector works on all cars there) . In the US, I believe they’ll give you up to two of these, and then for every one they give you, you can opt for a Clipper Creek J1772 EVSE. In Europe, I believe t hey give you up to two, and you can opt to have the second one set to charge anyone’s car.)
It’s really stupid to mount one in a handicap space, though - it basically guarantees it’ll get ICEd. What I can’t tell is if there’s a second EVSE on the back side of that - if there isn’t, then at least you could get to it from one of t he normal spots on the other side...

It appears to be double-sided, and there are non-handicapped spaces on the other side. Looks to be two charging cords, so enough for the first two spaces.
The raised concrete looks more like a parking curb than a sidewalk, so pulling the cord across it shouldn’t create a tripping hazard.
That said, parking a non-EV in an EV charging spot is the equivalent to parking a non-diesel vehicle at the only diesel pump at a gas station. It means that you are either ignorant or a dick, and either way
rolling coal on you is justified
.

Fuck it. Teslas arent anything special. I'd park there.

That’s true. Maybe there was no conflict.

Bigblock pointed out it may be a handicap spot that happened to be set up for Tesla charging too, and not simply reserved for Teslas. I’m not sure. However, if I had needed a spot, and other handicap ones were not open, I would have used it.

I would have too, but there was another one open. I found it funny that there was a spot for the very specific niche demographic of disabled Tesla drivers.

The charging station looks new compared to the paint so I’m assuming they just put it in recently and didn’t think.

Quite possibly.

Thhat has to be a small demographic.
